2nd Amendment Rights

“I am very mindful of the fact that sportsmen in America may have gone hunting with their fathers, their grandfathers, their mothers, their grandmothers, and that this is part of a tradition and a way of life that has to be preserved. And there’s nothing that I will do as president of the United States that will in any way encroach on the ability of sportsmen to continue that tradition.”
This quote is taken directly from President Obama’s Attackwatch.com website.

The most obvious thing to me is what it does not say. That is, it mentions sportsmen and guarantees that he will do nothing to keep sportsmen from enjoying the tradition of hunting. However, it does not mention the fact that the Second Amendment was not written with sportsmen in mind. It was, as a matter of fact, written with the intent to allow the people of America to own and use military-grade weapons, to defend the nation from enemies both foreign and domestic.

Noah Webster said: “Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any bands of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States.”

Patrick Henry said: “Where and when did freedom exist when the power of the sword and purse were given up from the people?”

Thomas Jefferson said: “The constitutions of most of our States assert, that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves, … or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed; that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property, and freedom of the press.”

Now tell me where in those quotes, and in many others from our founding fathers, those who actually wrote the Constitution and had the vision to frame this Great Nation, is there mentioned the rights of the sportsmen to hunt deer, shoot birds, and plink at tin cans?

The fact is that the 2nd Amendment is intended to give us the right to have machine guns, grenades, mortars, and whatever other military weapons we desire to possess. That is what the 2nd Amendment is for. And I for one am sick and tired of hearing that some gun or other “has no valid sporting purpose.” Who gives a damn if it has a valid sporting purpose or not. That is not the point.

The point is that the men who designed this nation had the foresight and common sense to understand that an armed populace was the only defense against dictators like Hitler and Mussolini, and a thousand others who came before and a thousand who will come in the future.

That short statement: “ A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” is the most important single sentence in the entire Library of Congress. It is by that statement that all the others are guaranteed.

We have no right to hunt and fish. Those are not rights, they are privileges. However, we do have the irrevocable right (except in regard to convicted felons) to keep and bear AR-15s and Glock 17s, and 1911 .45s, and M1 Garands, and M14s, and M16s, and many, many more. Now Obama, get over it and go home, where ever that may be.
