To Protect and Serve

Those of the population who are against civilian right to carry handguns argue that the police are much better trained and are therefore less a danger to the civilian population than “untrained civilians.”

Well, I could argue with them until I was blue in the face without convincing them they are wrong, but facts are facts, so let’s look at the latest facts and see what they tell us.

I took this from a headline on the Internet today:

NYPD: Empire State victims hit by police gunfire

Now let’s talk facts. These two supposedly highly trained officers, both or whom have been with the NYPD for 15 years, managed to wound 9 civilians while killing one fruitcake who had murdered a former workplace colleague. The bad guy shot no innocent standers by. He killed the guy he came to kill and then fled the scene. All, that is every one, of the injuries to by standers, was caused by the highly trained police officers. The bad guy was hit 10 times in the arms, legs, and torso. The innocent bystanders were hit in equally diverse places.

The report stated that the officers had fired a total of 16 rounds. Ten hits for 16 shots is actually better than average for police shootings. However, I would question the necessity of firing that many shots in a crowded place. On the other hand, having been in such situations, I understand that you do what you believe is right, make that decision in about a millionth of a microsecond, and often are hindered by tunnel vision, forgetting all the other people and focusing on the shooter like he was the only person in the entire world.

I would say this is another perfect example of the need for civilians to be armed at all times. Had one civilian been at the location of the original shooting, he might very well have stopped the bad guy before he exited the building, preventing him from entering the crowd and keeping the police from shooting up the crowd.

Just a thought. And think about this: Virginia Tech, Columbine High School, Omaha Mall, and Salt Lake City Mall, were all gun free zones. I believe that gun free zones are only a danger free hunting lease for nut case killers. I believe “gun free zones” should be illegal.

You cannot count on the police to protect you. In fact, if you read the above, you should understand that the police can be a true danger.

The sign on police cars that says, “To Protect and Serve,” is one ginormous lie. Get a gun! Learn to use it! Carry it everywhere! The only protection you can expect is from whatever weapon is in your holster.
