Honest, Mom, It Was Already Like That!

Tyler Nelson, 14, son of Texas Fish & Game staffer Sheila Nelson, had some explaining to do–and it didn’t go over very well with his mom.

Tyler is standing on a 4-wheeler submerged in a stock tank.

“The story I got was that he let his sister off, gave her his iPhone and said, ‘Take a video of this’,” Sheila said. “Somehow, the phone got wet and destroyed, so I haven’t seen the video. I made him stand there for 45 minutes before I calmed down enough to pull him out.  I still don’t know how he stayed dry.”

Feral Hog Attacks, Damages Deer Feeders

This hog wrecked the feeders on my deer lease near Caddo Lake state park.

I hunt over a long slough and I have feeders about 70 yards apart from each other. I noticed on the one closest to my stand that something was hanging down. I walked over and saw that something or someone had destroyed the timer box.

The feeder farthest away had a trail cam on it. That feeder timer had been destroyed also and I thought maybe, just maybe, I got a picture of the perpetrator.

I was shocked to see that pig standing on his hind legs with the timer in his mouth. I had enough spare parts to rebuild the timer.

A couple weeks later, the same thing happened. I thought I would outsmart the pig and dig a hole under the feeder with post hole diggers. I fixed the timer once more. That worked for couple of months.

It rained a lot and all the other animals had eventually filled the hole back in. It had been only about 8 inches deep because of how hard the ground was. Then the pig struck again.

I’ll either get longer legs for my feeder or I will put up some hog panels next year. He really interfered with my hunting this year. Now that hunting season is over, I might be able to do some night hunting for hogs. –Darryl Stark

Paul Coari – Black Drum – Texas Gulf

Paul Coari sent this photo he took of a friend sight-casting to “tatanka” (black drum) in the Gulf.

“Just read your article on hunting tatanka and it had alot of good information.” Coari wrote. “My friend and I enjoy sight casting them on the flats with lite tackle. The gulp shrimp and crab baits work well. The trick to catching them is to cast beyond them and bring the bait close to them and let them find it. Bringing the bait right up to them usually spooks them. They are alot of fun to catch.”

Drunken Moose in Tree – Sweden

A man named Per Johansson discovered this drunken female moose stuck in a tree after over-imbibing in fermented apples in Goteborg, Sweden.

He discovered the moose, looped and limp-lipped, when he went to investigate strange noises from his vacationing neighbor’s yard.
