I knew when I went to buy a federal duck stamp this year that getting a temporary one issued at Wal-Mart and then waiting for the federal government to send me one was probably a bad idea.
You have 45 days after purchase to receive your stamp. After that your temporary one is not good.
I bought my stamp before teal season but lost it, so on Oct. 30 I bought another one. It was valid until Dec. 13 as you can see in this photo.
The problem is I did not get my actual stamp in the mail until Jan. 11. As you can see the following photo, it was not mailed until Jan. 8, 2010.
It makes absolutely no sense to have a system like this, especially one that you pay extra processing money ($2) for, none of which will go to waterfowl conservation.
If the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department can issue a temporary stamp valid for 45 days, why can’t they issue one that can be valid the rest of the season?
Give us an option to get the actual duck stamp if we want but otherwise allow us to plan our hunts without having to worry about the temporary license expiring.
The system has failed with a 73 day gap between me buying my temporary duck stamp and getting it in the mail.
