Sounds great doesn’t it? We are finally doing something to curb this epidemic of gun violence. The trouble is that there is no such thing as gun violence. How can you battle something that does not exist?
One of the basic tenets of mathematics, or anything else for that matter, is that to solve a problem you must first be able to state the problem. That is just as true in our modern society of senseless violence as it is in mathematics. And here is the kicker: We have no problems with guns. What we have is a problem with our society. The problem is that we have become so politically correct that we cannot allow ourselves to face truths. Instead of facing the truth and finding ways to solve the problems that stem from those facts, we make idiotic statements like there is such as thing as “gun violence.” What we have is a cancer of our society. We have movies and TV shows that are so violent and gory that they would turn the stomach of anyone not hardened to such blood and gore. We have video games that teach exactly the kind of killing that happened in Newtown, CT just a few short days ago. In fact, if that young man had not destroyed his computers we would probably have found out that he spent most of his time playing just such games. Instead of outlawing guns we need to start trying to identify and cure the cancer that has invaded this nation.
Guns are only tools, used by men. They are neither good, nor evil. If they were we would not allow our policemen to carry the nasty things.
Let me say this very clearly; If I thought that all the ills of society in this nasty old world could be solved by the destruction of all the guns, I would be first in line. I could hunt with a bow and arrow and have just as much fun as I do with a gun. However, that would cure nothing. Genghis Khan didn’t use guns. Evil was perpetrated for thousands of years before guns were invented. And even if we wanted to we can’t destroy all the guns. In fact, our government doesn’t want to destroy ALL the guns, just those in the hands of private citizens. The police and the military will still have guns. And although the pundits and liberals will never admit it, so will the criminals, and we won’t have the means to defend ourselves, unless we figure out how to do it with a nail gun or a stapler.
Here is a fact that you have not seen on TV about the Newtown disaster. That whacko managed to kill all those children precisely and exactly because that school was a “gun free zone.” Since it was a gun free zone, and having a gun there is already illegal, exactly how did that man shoot all those children? Because he didn’t care that it was illegal, and neither will all the other criminals in the country and in the world. Neither will the people who make lots of money providing weapons in places where they are illegal.
If prohibition of alcohol failed to work, and if the prohibition of drugs has failed to work, just exactly how in the name of all that is holy does the government think that the prohibition of guns is going to work?
We repealed the prohibition of alcohol. But before we did, we made millionaires out of petty crooks. We will eventually be forced to legalized at least some recreational drugs. But before we do we will have (already have) made billionaires out of petty crooks. Why don’t we get smart and realize that the only way to handle criminals is to arm the citizenry, just exactly as our founding fathers understood and allowed for by the 2nd Amendment.
People who make the insane statement that they will not outlaw any weapons with a valid sporting purpose, have obviously never read the Constitution. If they had they would realize that the 2nd Amendment does not have anything to do with sporting weapons. It does not protect our rights to hunt, or shoot targets, or plink at tin cans. It protects our right to own military-grade weapons, assault rifles, machine guns, and it does this as protection against our own corrupt government. The 2nd Amendment says: “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
I fail to see how this can be misinterpreted. It says exactly what it means and it cannot be misunderstood by anyone with two brain cells to rub together. But let me try to make it plainer.
Since we need to remain free states, and since it may be necessary at some point in the future to call the citizens together to enforce that freedom, the right of each and every one of us to keep and bear weapons suitable for military service is not to be infringed in any way.
That is what it means. If the federal government tries to change that, then the free states must take steps to protect it. Thus comes the militia. I pray to God that this time never comes, but I am scared to death that it is standing on our doorsteps at this very moment.

This kind of argument makes most people lose respect for the cause – cars are not designed to kill anything, they are designed for transportation. The outrage over guns stems from the fact they’re designed to kill people with ease. Just ask the Marysville police officer whose youngest boy accidentally killed his sister – with his dad’s gun. Guns were conceived and designed to kill people, no matter how people might use them. In the case of guns, just the very objects, separate from the user, are meant to cause harm. Pretty damn simple, really.
Ellen, if you decline to own a gun AND become very proficient with the weapon, it’s your choice. No person should be armed unless they are well trained, know when to avoid a confrontation or engage the enemy, and are committed to using it as lethal force. My choice was made many years ago, and I will protect myself and my family as required, and firearms are necessary to stop criminals with guns. I don’t need to ask a grieving father if these tools can be misused to know that gun safety is essential. I refer you again to the need to be proficient and skilled in the use of weapons of all kinds.
If criminal smugglers can deliver tons of illegal drugs to criminal users every day, they can insert a gun every now and then. Laws don’t even slow down the criminals. They only affect the honest law abiding few.
Ellen, you make a good point. Guns make it easy to kill. So why take them away from law abiding citizens making them easy prey for criminals? More laws will not stop criminals or insane people. Enforcing some of the laws we already have could help. Since guns are a reality, why not face it seriously?
I hope that he speaks with law enforcement officials from Texas. None of us here want any kind of limitations on private citizens. I have said this to everyone I know. I have seized guns from people who are convicted felons but I will never seize weapons from law abiding citizens, regardless of any law passed, ever. It is a constitutional right, no law will ever over ride that. Guns are designed for killing… duh. But they are intended for safety, protection, security… not crimes. People choose to use them for crimes. The majority of gun buyers who buy from legitimate places are not criminals. If the government wants to make the background check a bit more thorough fine… want to make all gun sales to through a FFL… that’s fine too but when they punish everyone for the crimes of a few that is not justice, that is insanity.
