Anytime you see a picture of a fish what are the first two questions you ask the angler? Where did you catch it? What were you using? While most of the time the angler will give you an answer to both, you always have an uneasy feeling that their not telling you the truth because, well, fishermen are prone to fibbing.
But, my job is to actually pass along useful information so I’m going to tell you exactly what I’m using right now to catch bass. Well, I’m not using them. My kids and their friends are using them. They just drag me along to retie baits and unhook fish. I don’t think I’ve actually caught a fish in years. Thus is the life of a dad.
The first thing we’re using right now is the old faithful Rattle Trap. Yes, everyone uses them but that’s because they work. My daughter hauled in a few bass (capped by a 3.5 pounder) chunking a trap, in a few feet of water. This is the easiest bait ever since you just cast and reel. She also caught a channel cat that apparently has aspirations of becoming a bass some day.
On the same fishing trip, one of the local kids who hang out at my house pulled in a solid four pound bass on a Sebile A-Cast Minnow. The kid using this one was again just chunking and winding in just a few feet of water with great success
So there you go. Now you know exactly what I’m using right now to catch fish.
