Matagorda County hogs! (photos)

If you can’t have fun hog hunting, you’re weird!

Well, that is if you like to hunt to begin with. Hog hunting offers so much excitement and wonderful yields of meat that I cannot imagine someone not taking a shine to it.

At first day one of the Texas Fish & Game Hog Wild Week looked like it was going to not be so good. We had a helicopter hunt planned but the wind was too high.

So, instead our newfound friend Jim Bob from the JB Hunting Ranch in Matagorda County offered to take TF&G blogger/columnist Dustin Ellermann and I along with TF&G Publisher Roy Neves (who was filming) for some hog stalking action.

And it went incredibly well!

For information on hunting and fishing in Matagorda County contact Heidi Simmons by clicking here.

Expect some cool surprises later in the week.

Until then check it out…

We met the chopper pilot who said it was too windy to get the job done today but we are returning soon, perhaps later this week.
Look at the teeth on this critter Dustin and I doubled teamed with ARs.
Jim Bob from the JB Hunting Ranch and Dustin Ellermann with a perfect eating-sized sow. Notice the cool suppressor?

Dustin shot the big hog of the day. I can’t figure out if it looks more like a werewolf or a hog.

Texan continues to impress on “Top Shot”

Shotguns are definitely not Dustin Ellermann’s area of greatest experience but you could not tell that by watching the third episode of “Top Shot” Season 3 on History last night. During a challenge involving shooting slugs through a Benelli M4 Super 90, he shot with about impressive accuracy, making him safe from elimination at...
