Back in June David Trove of Baytown won a trip to fish with yours truly at the TF&G Family Fishing Clinic.
This morning we made good on the trip but things didn’t look good at first. The wind started off blowing 15 miles per hour and ended up at steady clip of around 25. We originally intended to go after flounder but decided to focus on redfish since Sabine Lake was off limits in the rough conditions.
We set up at one of my favorite spots (and one of the most popular with local anglers) on the Sabine River and absolutely mauled the redfish. Using live mullet rigged on 3/8-oz Bomber Saltwater Grade jigheads we caught between 20-25 redfish between 21-33 inches.
In the Dec. edition of TF&G I have a story about the value of boat positioning and actually spoke with Trove about that on the way to this spot. And once we got the exact spot and were able to cast into one certain spot we got bit with almost every cast.
It was incredible.
I had a great time fishing with Trove who not only caught the most reds in one sitting but also his biggest redfish ever. Congratulations. He’s a good angler and worked these big reds in the strong river current and brutal wind like a pro.
