Ignoring bear sightings?

Over the last few years I have been actively involved through TF&G and my radio show in promoting bear awareness in Texas. I would love to see a comeback of bears and was proud when TF&G initiated its “Don’t Shoot That Bear!” poster campaign. This is the kind of thing that makes working for TF&G so exciting.

With all of that said it has been frustrating having very little cooperation with the state on the bear issue. Nathan Garner, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department biologist, has been a help and sent me a bunch of bear education brochures to send out but otherwise we get little feedback.

I submitted this photo taken five years ago in Bay City of all places by Al Weaver of Groves on a hog hunt and got zero response. Sent to two biologists from a department allegedly looking for bear info and zip, zero.

First off this is a unique bear sighting because it’s not just one that zipped across the border from Louisiana. Bay City is a long way from the Sabine.

Anyway, check out the pic. Cool, huh?
