New Trout Habitat

As noted in my last blog of 2010, one of my goals for 2011 is to find new big trout habitat on Sabine Lake and surrounding waters.

Today I went into a spot I had fished by a hundred times but never made it into.

This afternoon I donned the waders and found the slough I had cast toward for all those years is a lot deeper than I thought and has sharp drop-offs.

It is only about 1/2 mile from the ship channel and is a mud bottom which warms up good in the afternoons.

Today there was a stiff east wind and some cloud cover so it was not exactly prime conditions. When we can get a south wind on a high tide I have a feeling there will be some specks to be found.

I highly advise you spend some time this year exploring and finding new habitat to fish. For starters it will make thing new for you and open opportunities for catching big fish you might have never considered.
