In the Feb. 2010 edition I predicted we would within the next five years see a five fish per person bag limit for speckled trout all along the Texas coast.
It looks that might just be happening.
I just got pretty authoritative word that in February the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) will hold “scoping meetings” on trout and look at a variety of management options to address decline.
If they are having scoping meetings you can bet TPWD will enact some sort of regulation change.
At a minimum we will see a five trout limit for the Middle Coast as San Antonio, Aransas and some of the smaller bays down in that area have had sharp trout declines.
It could also mean a five trout limit statewide. We’ll see.
