Reader Steve Coulter showed me this photo on his phone at an appearance and Daley’s Hunt-N-Fish a couple of weeks ago.

Abundant in East Texas, these shy and mainly nocturnal squirrels are rarely seen by humans. I once had the amazing blessing of seeing one glide from tree to tree as a burnt orange sun faded away in the swamps of Orange County a few years ago.

However, that is the only one I have seen in the wild.

This beautiful little glider was in his deer blind and stuck around long enough for him to take several shots.

  1. Great Pic..
I was taught by my father on how to catch Wild” flying Squirrels ” when I was a youngster, In Montgomery County, Texas… he taught us how to Catch, “TAME” and maintain as pets, we would carry them around in our shirt pockets, let the ” Fly ” loose in the house, very entertaining to say the least, If you got a young one they were easy to Bond with, and made very affectionate Pets.
